Challengers began as a grass roots assemply of Catholics with a vision of providing fellow Catholics with opportunitieis to share and grow in their faith.
How our group began....It all started ... in the beginning there was a call.... a call from our Lady .... in the heart of one of our core members - Lucy Bathalon. In the heat of August, half way around the world, climbing a rocky hillside, in Medjugorje - the place where Mary appeared to 6 children in 1981 - Lucy heard a call. This was not a normal call, but a deep feeling that she had a purpose - a purpose to bring those struggling souls at home together and help inspire deep within them a burning flame for Jesus. She knew that everyone at home must feel like her most of the time -- just trying to get through the day - struggling with those daily challenges of being Catholic in today's society. How... oh how could she help them feel like there was hope? Then.... suddenly she was hit with an idea... a bring light from on high.... and no, it wasn't the ceiling lamp. She had attended Catholic Conferences before that left her high as a kite, but why wasn't there anything in Vermont - something local that everyone could attend. Most of the conferences she had attended where hundreds of miles away, and she knew that most people weren't able to attend something like that. So, why not bring the conference to Vermont - so that everyone here would have the same wonderful experience that she was getting. ... thus this conference, and our group, were born. |
